New Yarns and New Hats

I've been knitting, knitting, knitting, and here is where we are at for the donations... some of these will be at the fundraising table at the Bumps and Babies Fair next month (http://www.bumpsandbabiesfair.com/) but most are ready for donation! I think I will do a few more and then send them out! Thanks to everyone who is buying hats and donating!

I was also able to get a few more spring colors in the organic cotton! We woke up to snow this morning, but hopefully spring is just around the corner.

Also on a whim, I decided to make some hair clips for something extra for the fundraising table. Here are a few:

Dont forget to check out the shop for a few new styles and colors (flowered beanies for the girls and stripes for the boys!) http://www.etsy.com/shop/thenewproject

Yarn Ordered!

Thank you everyone, for your donations! I was able to put in my first order for more organic cotton yarn, which should arrive in about a week. There will be a gorgeous purple, dark blue, light blue and a new light pink in an organic fair trade cotton that I am excited to try out.

Also, the first donation site has been chosen. Drum roll..... the first batch of newborn beanies will be going to the awesome organization Wellspring, via my former midwife Erin Curtiss. She takes the donations at her U Village office for Wellspring. I am so excited to get the new yarn, finish my first batch of beanies and get them off to Erin and Wellspring.

A couple of the new colors:

Thanks everyone, keep checking back in at the shop for new items and thanks for the donations!! They mean a lot to a new baby and family.

Short Stack.

A little stack of organic cotton beanies, ready to go! I still have more of a few of these colors, then I will be ready to get some new colors and make this stack a lot bigger. What do you think?

It begins.

Here is what I am starting with... I have some gorgeous cotton and wool, and of course I have my huge stash of acrylic to work with, but I am hoping for all the newborn beanies for donation to be made from the organic cotton. I still need to do a little research to see if places will want anything in wool, due to some wool allergies. For now I am just sticking with cotton. Everyone loves nice soft cotton!

Lucky me, my wonderful husband got me a yarn winder and spinner for Christmas! This thing is amazing! It took me a few tries to get it going (and a few yarns wrapped around all over the spinner) but I think I have the hang of it now. Now if only I can keep my toddler from grabbing the yarn mid spin, we will be good to go :) And my husband is happy that he doesnt have to help wind yarn by hand anymore.

Here is the beginning of the newborn beanies. I also have another one in the mint. Soon I will have a whole pile of these and will let you know my plans for the first donation.

Also, if you are in the market for some wool, I have a big stash ready to ship! And dont forget to check out the new shop at thenewproject.etsy.com.

Happy New Year everyone! Cant wait to start out the year with this new challenge. Thanks to everyone who helped TinyToppers (RIP) be such a success and for supporting my new ideas!

Welcome!

Well, this is it! Welcome to the new space. I will keep this updated with fun stuff including the yarns and hats that are bought and made with everyone's generous donations, as well as where and when donations are made. If you know of a place that would benefit from donations of knitted hats and/ or wool for newborns, etc please leave me a comment! My goal is to be able to make everything I donate using top quality organic materials. This is a big dream of mine, I am so excited to get started!
